A half a century ago...

My mom was born!!

Ok, I know she isn't exactly a baby here, but I couldn't find a baby picture of my mom, and this one with her and her brother and their puppy, Sheba, was just so darn cute!!

I've had a blast giving her a hard time about being half a century old. I know, I know, I've got it coming. (But it was worth it!!)

I wanted to make sure my mom's birthday was special, so I dug up the hyacinth I planted for her last year (it died during the freeze in March). I planted a rose bush instead. It's still alive a week later, but it hasn't blossomed yet.

The flowers in the front I planted last spring and was thrilled to see them begin to bloom again.

I decorated the dining room a little, and made mom a birthday cake. I briefly considered covering it in 5o candles, but wasn't sure I wanted a visit from the local fire department.

While I was preparing the festivities, the phone rang. It was the mother of one of my primary kids wondering if she and her son could come over for a second. I thought maybe there was something the pri
mary needed me to have or to know, but I was wrong!! She and her sweet and super smart almost-five-year-old brought me cookies and a card to thank me for being Bryan's primary teacher. I was so touched at the thoughtfulness. Bryan is quite the artist!! The cookies were absolutely delicious!!

PS, Mom's birthday is April 15, the same as her brother's (Happy Birthday, Uncle Reed!!). Yes, I know this post is nearly a week late, but I've been battling a sinus infection, so I have a feeling Mom will forgive me. Love you Mom!!
