Engagement Pics

Yesterday was MLK day and Adam and I both had the day off, which was lucky because we've been needing to get our engagement photos done...  Luckily Aunt Mar was willing to help out and she took some awesome pictures.

Aunt Mar with assistant Megan spent almost three hours at three locations taking pics we could use for our invitations and the reception.  I was kind of bummed because the first place we went had some great architecture but in the middle of shooting a lady came up to us and told us we needed to pay a $50 photo permit fee to take pictures of the buildings.  $50!!! Crazy!!  There was no way I was going to pay that and I think we all felt that way so we moved on to the other spots Aunt Mar had picked out.  I have only seen a handful of shots, but so far I love them.  I "borrowed" some from Aunt Mar's blog.  Enjoy!!

Silly string party = Adam with hair

I LOVE the shadow on this one.

Lucky I have such a handsome fiance!! :)

Thanks Aunt Mar for spending the day with us and taking all these awesome photos.  You do such an great job you really could go pro!

Dear Jay

Dear Jay,

I just want to say thank you for all the hard work you put in this holiday season.  I know I am not the easiest person to get close to.  It is still weird for me that my parents are not married to each other, but I know that you are working very hard to make my mom happy.  If Mom can't be married to Dad then I am glad she is married to you.

I know you devoted a lot of time and money and made many sacrifices to make sure that my family had a great holiday.  You have a very generous and loving personality.  I want you to know that I may not say it very much (or at all...) but I appreciate the things you try do for us.  You went far above and beyond this Christmas and I hope you know how much it means to me.  I am sorry that not everything worked out the way it was planned and I know I am partly responsible (I inherited a bit of a stubborn streak from one or both of my parents...). Thanks for putting up with us.

Once Upon A Time

There was a girl.  This girl had been through some rough stuff.  She didn't mind usually though because her life had gotten better.  She had a decent job, she was back in school working on her bachelor's degree, and most importantly of all, she had found the love of her life.

This girl thought that as long as the trials she had suffered through were worth something -if she could use them to help others- then they were worth while.  Any time she thought how nice it would be to not have to have been through certain things, she thought of her wonderful fiance and how she never would have met him had her life not taken the path that it did.  She supposed she might have found someone else, and her life might've been fine, but she knew she loved her fiance more than anything else in the world and having him around helped her forget her difficult past.

When her love proposed, she was over the moon with joy.  She was thrilled to be able to marry the love of her life.  But very quickly this joy was tainted by a tiny bitter pill.  She had been married before.  She could not be married for time and eternity to her fiance as her sealing to her former husband had not yet been canceled.

She and her new fiance filled out the application for her sealing to be canceled.  She wrote the letter describing what her marriage had been like.  She was interviewed by her bishop and stake president and though those men cared about her and didn't want to hurt her, they had to make her relive her painful past so they could know whether it was right to recommend that her sealing be cancelled.

She began to have nightmares again.  Dreams like the ones she had when she first got divorced.  She was losing sleep and beginning to stress.  Her hoped for wedding date had become impossible.  So, she moved her wedding date back and began to re-envision it.  Her request to the First Presidency of the church was finally sent off and she was given an expectation of when she should have the reply.  Her friends and family encouraged her to begin planning her reception.  She began to feel a little of the excitement again.

But the days past into weeks and she began to worry again.  If there is one thing this girl is good at, it is thinking of worst-case-scenarios and stressing herself out.  She began to be sad.  She wondered if she was good enough for her request to be approved.  Would Heavenly Father allow her to marry her sweet fiance?  She knew her Heavenly Father loved her and wanted her to be happy.  Surely he would let her be sealed to the man she loved, the man her Heavenly Father had sent to her.

But her faith in the process was beginning to waver.  She became more and more depressed and frustrated.  She felt humiliated that she could not even set a firm wedding date.  It felt like she was being punished for everything she had already been through.  But it had been her choice to marry her first husband, so maybe she deserved to be punished.

Talk of wedding plans stressed her so badly at this point that she could barely even speak of them without shutting down or bursting into tears.  Everyone kept telling her the letter was on its way.

Her bishop was released and a new one was called.  Though this had no effect on her plans, she was sad to see her friend go and anxious to meet her new bishop and let him know of her situation.  Last Sunday, she met with him for tithing settlement and she let him know about some of her fears.  She had been told her new bishop was very in tune with the Spirit and when he paused and told her, "I think your letter will come very soon" she almost believed him.  But the doubt and depression had sunk too deep.  She could not let herself hope.

And then, last night, she came home to find a note from the post office letting her know a package was waiting for her at her apartment office.  Her heart gave a little leap.  Could it be that her letter was waiting for her in the locked office?  She wished she could get in to see.  She waited patiently but anxiously all the next day for her work to be over so she could rush home and to the apartment office before it closed.  She kept telling herself not to get her hopes up.  She'd opened her mailbox with high hopes too many times and it chipped a little piece of her heart each time she discovered the letter she was looking for was not there.  She realized that the note had said a package was waiting for her... not a letter.  Perhaps then, her Christmas gift from Grandma had already come.  That would be alright.  She always enjoyed opening Grandma's gifts.

Finally, work was over and she was standing in the apartment office.  She was waiting for them to bring her package.  She heard the attendant shift a large box and her heart sank just a little.  It wasn't a letter then.  The attendant came out with a large box from another company and they discovered the package had our girl's address on it by mistake.  It wasn't even Christmas from Grandma.

Disappointed, the girl walked to the mailboxes and opened hers.  She saw she had two letters underneath a magazine.  She lifted the magazine and realized one of the letters was from the church.  The other was from Grandma.

She threw the magazine away without even looking at it as she excitedly started tearing open her letter from the church.  Please let it be good news, she hoped.  She was walking home as she read that her prior sealing had been canceled and she finally had permission to marry her love in the temple.  Her heart soared like it had never before as she half ran/half danced the rest of the way home.  She happily opened the card from Grandma (thanks for the gift by the way!) and laughed when she read Grandma's Christmas wish for her was for her to receive her letter from the First Presidency.

She immediately thanked her Heavenly Father asking him to forgive her for doubting.  Then she called her fiance and her family with the good news.

IT'S HERE!!  I'M GETTING MARRIED!!!! HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have to share some Christmas Spirit

Yahoo featured an article about this fabulously talented little girl named Rhema.  Amazingly enough this little girl is only seven years old.  Here's her Christmas tribute to her dad:

This next one is for Rhema's mom who passed away in 2008.  Grab a box of tissues before watching...

I am blown away by this little girl's amazing talent.  I am sure we will be hearing her name again in a few years.  Look out Hannah Montana!!

Lots to catch up on

I know I said I'd post a pic of my foot.  Sorry I haven't gotten around to it.  I will add it to the previous post when I have more time.

Speaking of my foot, it is already much better.  I finally got released back to full duty at work which means I can put my full weight on my foot and even wear normal shoes.  Except.... my injury has left a nasty scar.  I've only been back to normal shoes for a few days, and I've been wearing the type of sensible, comfy, but kind of ugly shoe that would keep the scar covered and give my foot the support it needs.  But I need to go back to my cute shoes.  There are so many outfits that I just cannot where my ugly shoes with.  I know I need to invest in Mederma, and I will.  But I think the scar will only fade.  It is permanent.  My cute shoes will not cover the scar. Maybe the church will make and exception and let me get a tattoo to cover it??  JUST KIDDING!!!!

Wedding plans...  Uh that would be a big fat nothing.  We have NOTHING ready.  I have my dress and shoes but I don't start fittings for another month.  I am bummed that I have not received my letter from the church yet.  Since I have been married before, I have to have my sealing to my former husband cancelled before I can be sealed to Adam.  For those of you who are not LDS, think of a Catholic Anullment.  Until I have that letter, I cannot set a firm wedding date.  Which means I cannot send invitations or book a church for a reception or make most of the plans brides two months out from a wedding usually have finished already.  We don't even have engagement pics yet and with our busy schedules I am beginning to think we will have to do without.

I am frustrated.  And hurt.  And coming in to the holiday season I know the First Presidency is super busy and it will only push back their reply further.  I understand this and accept it as normal and natural.  But it is no less frustrating.  It makes running away for an elopement very tempting.  But I want so much to teach my children about how important the temple is.  I want them to know what it means to be sealed forever.  I want my family to be eternal.  How can I teach my children the importance of a temple marriage if I myself did not wait?

We may have to have a civil ceremony and be sealed later.  It really all depends on whether or not we get that letter.  My non LDS friends are less than understanding and it is difficult for me to explain why I need to wait for this letter.  Some of them are using this as an example of the negativities of being Mormon, and this hurts.  I want them to understand how much I love my Heavenly Father and how much I want to do as he has asked.  But I have to confess my patience is wearing thin.  Some days I am excited to open my mailbox since I KNOW the letter has arrived only to open it to a stack of advertisements and bills.  Other days, I don't even bother going to the mailbox since I KNOW the letter is NEVER coming.  (I'm a bit of a drama queen apparently).

I am trying to have faith.  I know that the Lord will do what is best for me.  I know my Heavenly Father will do things in his time because he knows better than I do.  I know he loves me and wants me to be happy.

Everyone says the letter is right around the corner and I should have it any day now.

We'll see I guess...

Good news and bad news

My dress and shoes finally arrived!  I had to try on the dress with the shoes... Of course I did.  I want to put that dress on everyday.  I'm tempted to try it on right now as a matter of fact.  Anyway, the shoes are awesome with the dress and tall enough that I do not have to have the dress hemmed.  Huge bonus!!  However, I am not used to heels that tall so I will need to practice wearing them a lot.

On that note, I can't really wear them right now.  I ran over my foot with the vault door.  What looked like a nasty scrape has turned out a little worse.  No actual nerve damage but I've inflamed or irritated the nerves as the doctor put it.  I have to stay off my foot as much as possible and keep it elevated to relieve the pressure on my nerves.  He thinks there will be no permanent damage but it will be 3-4 months before I'm back to normal.  I don't have a few months!!  I need to be able to wear those heels in time for dress fittings!! AAAGGGHHHH!!!!

Do you want to see the rather icky pic of my foot?  I'll post it if you really want but it's kind of gross.

I just got an email

That my wedding dress has arrived!

I thought it wouldn't be here until late December.  I hadn't even bought shoes yet!

Well... Now I have ;)

I just ordered them online.  Hopefully they will be as cute in person as they are online.  I guess I will know in 4-7 days!

A comment for my readers:

You guys are awesome!!

I appreciate all of your kind comments and I am looking forward to keeping up with you guys.  I'm glad to see everyone is doing so well.

Amber- somehow I already have access to your blog.  You must have given it to me a long time ago and I've just gotten really behind.  Sorry!  I will try to do better.

Jill, I don't often get a chance to read your blog but I do from time to time.  I love your announcement about Brock and Erin.  The pictures are precious!  I want you to know that I know I'm not your daughter-in-law, but I am so glad Karen is.  That way I can tell myself that we are family.  I appreciate how good and kind you are and how much you love my sister.  I was so worried about her having bad in-laws, but I have known since we met that she hit the jackpot.  Thanks for being so good to her.

April, I'm dying to find out more about your baby.  I can't wait until Oct 29th.  You'll have to tell Adam to tell me the news or you can get my phone number from him and text me.  I'm so excited for you!!
