Good news and bad news
My dress and shoes finally arrived! I had to try on the dress with the shoes... Of course I did. I want to put that dress on everyday. I'm tempted to try it on right now as a matter of fact. Anyway, the shoes are awesome with the dress and tall enough that I do not have to have the dress hemmed. Huge bonus!! However, I am not used to heels that tall so I will need to practice wearing them a lot.
On that note, I can't really wear them right now. I ran over my foot with the vault door. What looked like a nasty scrape has turned out a little worse. No actual nerve damage but I've inflamed or irritated the nerves as the doctor put it. I have to stay off my foot as much as possible and keep it elevated to relieve the pressure on my nerves. He thinks there will be no permanent damage but it will be 3-4 months before I'm back to normal. I don't have a few months!! I need to be able to wear those heels in time for dress fittings!! AAAGGGHHHH!!!!
Do you want to see the rather icky pic of my foot? I'll post it if you really want but it's kind of gross.

I just got an email
That my wedding dress has arrived!
I thought it wouldn't be here until late December. I hadn't even bought shoes yet!
Well... Now I have ;)
I just ordered them online. Hopefully they will be as cute in person as they are online. I guess I will know in 4-7 days!

A comment for my readers:
You guys are awesome!!
I appreciate all of your kind comments and I am looking forward to keeping up with you guys. I'm glad to see everyone is doing so well.
Amber- somehow I already have access to your blog. You must have given it to me a long time ago and I've just gotten really behind. Sorry! I will try to do better.
Jill, I don't often get a chance to read your blog but I do from time to time. I love your announcement about Brock and Erin. The pictures are precious! I want you to know that I know I'm not your daughter-in-law, but I am so glad Karen is. That way I can tell myself that we are family. I appreciate how good and kind you are and how much you love my sister. I was so worried about her having bad in-laws, but I have known since we met that she hit the jackpot. Thanks for being so good to her.
April, I'm dying to find out more about your baby. I can't wait until Oct 29th. You'll have to tell Adam to tell me the news or you can get my phone number from him and text me. I'm so excited for you!!

I love facebook. I love getting to keep in touch with my friends that I might not otherwise be able to talk to. I love that boost to my ego when people wish me happy birthday or congratulate me on something I've announced. I like posting pictures and letting my friends and family share in my memories. I love seeing my friends pics (especially if they are baby pics!!!) and seeing all the good things happening in their lives.
However, facebook has become too much of a burden lately. Too many people use what I say or post against me. I'm tired of the game playing and so I have had to say goodbye to my friend, facebook.
It has been hard! I keep wanting to click on that link. I had to delete the app from my phone so I wouldn't be reminded of it and click on it. I am definitely and addict going through withdrawals.
Anyway, since I can no longer facebook stalk my friends and see their cute engagement/wedding/baby/or other fun pics, I'd love to be better about following blogs. Since I don't know who all reads my blog and/or was reading my facebook updates, I'd love some feedback. If you don't mind, friend me on here or send me your blog address. The comments are private until I post them and if you send me email addresses, phone numbers, or blogs, I won't post your comment. Oh, and if you need my info just send me a comment so I can get that to you as well.
I may make my break from facebook temporary. I may get over my addiction and just stay away. I don't know. I just know I get enough of politics at work. Facebook should have been an escape.
Sorry for the lecture! I hope you all understand. I will try to be better about keeping up with my blog here since I won't be on facebook for the foreseeable future.

Sorry I can't post a picture
I'm trying to keep it a surprise for Adam.
I am super excited to announce...
I found my dress!!
It is so pretty. And classy. It is something I never would have tried on if my Aunt Mar hadn't talked me into it. But from the moment I had it on, I knew.
It fits so nicely. And feels so comfortable. It's perfect!

2 Weeks
Two weeks from today is my birthday.
I am not a huge birthday fan. Something always seems to go wrong.
Plus, I never know what I want. I know what I need...a new car...(or at least one a little more quiet and much less shaky would be nice...) Bigger ticket items for the apartment... things I could never ask for and certainly don't expect.
If I do come up with a want, it's always some incredibly expensive tech toy... I suppose my taste comes from my dad. :)
But this year draws me ever closer to the dreaded 3-0, and I'm really not looking forward to this birthday. I really hate being in the spotlight anyway.
So, I thought I might steal a page from a friend's book. Instead of celebrating me, or buying me gifts, what I'd really like would be for everyone to perform an act of service. It can be small and simple and even anonymous if you prefer. You don't even have to tell me about it, but I do welcome comments to this post if you'd like to share your experiences.
Now, my friend usually celebrates his birthday by having everyone perform an act of service and then that night those who can, get together for ice-cream or eat some on their own. Ice-cream can often make me sick (though I love it!!) so I usually prefer custard or yogurt. I can't really schedule an ice-cream or dessert social into my calendar anyway, so after your act of service, please feel free to treat yourself to the dessert of your choice and have a bite for me.

We Don't Drink Tea
On Friday, July 23, 2010...
Adam came over for our regular Friday night date. We had talked earlier in the week about what we wanted to do, and we both said we wanted to go to Petra's which is our favorite restaurant. It's a very yummy Mexican-bistro but is pretty far away. Plus... I really shouldn't be eating there because of my food allergies. But it's soooooo goooood!!! So we go once in a blue moon when I've had time to prepare. I basically have to starve myself. I have to make sure that I am extremely careful about the ingredients in my food for a few days before a trip to Petra's is safe(ish).
Anyway, we were both craving that delicious devil food. Adam asked me when I wanted to go, and I decided we should save it for our Friday night date.
That night, he came over kind of late. He called to let me know he had gotten stuck late at work, and then in traffic, and something else that he'd tell me later. He sounded a little frustrated so I said not to worry and figured he'd tell me what was bothering him when he got here.
Nearing 8 pm, he finally arrived. I was STARVING and was totally ready to go so I grabbed my purse and was ready to run out the door almost without even inviting him in. But Adam stepped in blocking my way out (and to FOOD). He said, "I have something for you. But I have to put it together so I need you to go hide in the bathroom."
Sitting on a toilet lid for who knows how long while dreaming of oh so delicious chicken guajillo didn't sound fun but of course I'm always up for presents. I asked if I could wait in the bedroom instead. But Adam said no, because he was afraid I'd peek out the window and see him bringing in the pieces of my gift. I hadn't even thought of peeking, I swear!! But like a good girl I went into the bathroom and shut the door.
I heard Adam leave and come back. I sat and listened to him banging around my apartment. What a racket he was making!! I heard him in the kitchen, then the living room. I heard what sounded like pipes being banged together. I heard a loud thud and wondered if he'd dropped something. I was so confused wondering what was happening. I knew what I was hoping for but wasn't about to let myself dream it could be...
Finally, Adam called out to tell me I could come see my present. I came out and looked at him sitting nonchalantly on the couch/futon. I looked behind me. I looked to my left. I looked back at Adam who was smiling so pleased with himself. I was baffled. All that noise should have led to something huge, right?
All this took seconds of course, and I turned my gaze to the dining room. What I saw brought tears to my eyes as I knelt down beside it.
(Ignore the boxes for a moment.) There, in my dining room, was my side table. Adam had placed on it a gift bag, an orchid, and a glass with a red rose and a white rose. If you notice, there are tags attached with fleur de lis ribbon. Adam is from New Orleans, so he's a huge fan of the fleur de lis (and not just because of the Saints). The White rose said "To: Past" which Adam said was to remind us of when we first met. The Red rose said "To: Present" which he explained represented our relationship as it is now. The gift bag said "To: Future" which was a token to our future.
I looked back at Adam who was now standing behind me, trembling. With tears in his eyes, he said, "You can open that now or later. It's up to you when you want your gift."
"I want it now!" I said, completely unable to contain my excitement as I reached for the bag and pulled out a black velvet box. (I was trembling too...)
"Before you open that box, I have a poem I memorized for you."
Holding the black box closed in my hand, I looked back up at Adam.
He said, "Roses are red; violets are blue. We don't drink tea; will you marry me?"
Of course I said YES!!!!
I guess all that noise-making was just to throw me off the scent. Adam had been hoping to surprise me with a proposal I knew was coming and he sure pulled it off!! I love all the trouble he went to to make the proposal unique and special. I adore the cute little poem he made up, especially once he explained it. He said he knew girls liked to tell their engagement stories and he wanted me to have a cute story I would enjoy sharing. And I do love telling it!! It never gets old. I am so lucky to have gotten such a sweetheart!!
Adam later told me that he had decided while he was on family vacation at the beginning of the month that he was ready to propose. He wasn't sure exactly when, but a little more than a week ago, he decided he'd do it on what ever night I chose for our Petra's date. I made myself wait a few days for my engagement and didn't even know it!!
I should have guessed. I knew something was up because Adam was very weird all week. Giddy and goofy like a 5 year old at the circus.... high... or drunk... I kept asking him what was wrong with him. I thought maybe he was severely lacking sleep. But it turns out, he knew he was about to propose and just couldn't hold in his excitement.

So Far This Summer
I have been insanely busy.
For Memorial Day, a date took me to an airplane museum in Addison. It was really neat. There were some fabulous planes from WWI and WWII that had been beautifully restored. Then we went to an outdoor concert that finished with a wonderful fireworks show.
I got to see Wicked again this year. It's always wonderful, and I liked the girl who played Glinda much better this year. I attended the show with the same date.
I had the best 4th of July EVER!! My date was out of town, but I was lucky enough to be invited to Dad's house. In his town, fireworks are legal, and everybody had them. We sat in the back of his truck and our heads swiveled as we were surrounded by show-quality fireworks. It was amazing!!
I did all of this while working full time and going to school full time. (YAY no more statistics!!). Oh yeah, and I took a little promotion at work. I'm now the Teller Operations Specialist. Better known as the teller supervisor. It's fun and challenging. I suppose I should have waited a few weeks for school to settle down, or maybe I should have taken some time off from school because I have been stressed to the max! But it's truly better this way. I just keep pushing through. I'm afraid if I take time off, I'll never step back up.
Oh yeah, I received a calling to be a Relief Society teacher. My first lesson is this Sunday. Anybody want to teach it for me? I'm not exactly sure what they were thinking. I make a good CTR 5 teacher. But teaching a small group of sweet 5 year olds is so much easier than a huge group of women who are a million times smarter than you.
Oh, and in case you were wondering.... My date this summer... is...
Adam.
We got to talking and it turned out we still loved each other so very much. We had to give our relationship another chance. Things have been fantastic so far. I hated our time apart, but I needed to focus on myself. I've tried to continue that somewhat so I maintain my independence. Adam got to use his time realizing all my wonderful qualities. He's decided life is so much better with me in it. I've been incredibly happy these past two months. I think we both have. Hopefully we've both learned from our experiences and have grown into the people we need to be to build a lasting relationship. So far so good! :)

Happy Birthday Karen!!
Happy birthday to my lovely little sister! Here's hoping she has a fabulous day!
I am so proud of Karen. She has worked so hard her entire life to become a very good young woman. She exemplifies the virtues we are taught in church. She is full of wisdom and great advice. She was able to choose a fantastic young man to marry and graduated from college a couple of weeks ago. I am so proud of all of her accomplishments. I am thrilled that she has such a bright future ahead of her.
I love you, Karen! Have a great day!!
